Dehumidifiers

To decrease mold and dust mite infestation and provide improved comfort in your home, it must be properly dehumidified.

Mold is the #1 threat and greatest health risk inside your home. All mold is allergenic and some may be toxic. According to the EPA, illnesses from exposure to mold can range from allergic reactions to cancer.
Dust mites, microscopic spiders that feed off dead skin cells, are the #1 and most common allergy-producing organisms found in the home. A standard mattress may contain 1 to 2 million dust mites, and since they are non-airborne, they cannot be filtered out of the air.

Both mold and dust mites can be restricted through proper humidity control. Because high humidity not only supports mold and dust mites, but can also increase the release of volatile organic compounds from building materials. A humidity level between 40% and 50% is the ideal range to control allergy-producing organisms in your home.

Humidifiers

Humidifiers help to keep the air moist and comfortable. This is a wise idea for homes which use gas furnaces (which dry out the air). In addition to the gas furnace drying out the air, the winter air is dry anyway. The humidity in your home should stay at about 40-50% in the winter months - and many homeowners experience a 20% humidity level during these times. 4 Seasons Heating and Air carries several products that can help you achieve a healthy humidity level in your home.
